Celebration of Service
Save the Date! Join us on January 19, 2013 for Celebration of Service!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has inspired generations to take action and improve their communities through service to one another. Each January, more than 3,000 Chicago Cares volunteers join together to strengthen our city and become living examples of Dr. King's dream.
An opening ceremony gets volunteers excited and ready to serve with local performers, dignitaries and an inspirational speaker. Following the ceremony, Celebration of Service volunteers travel throughout the city to serve diverse communities by leading interactive multicultural fairs for children, painting colorful murals, sharing stories with seniors, organizing school libraries and brightening community centers with new coats of paint.
The event is also a significant fundraiser for Chicago Cares, and money raised through corporate sponsorship and individual donations make it possible for us to create, manage and lead more than 200 volunteer projects every month.
Volunteers include hundreds of Chicago Public School students, corporate volunteer teams of all sizes, community groups, alumni groups and individuals who want to make a difference through service.
