Celebration of Service
Honor Diversity, Celebrate Service
Each January, Chicago Cares celebrates and reflects on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by honoring his message of unity through community service. This year, we are expanding our programming from one day of service to celebrating the entire month in honor of Dr. King. Chicago Cares is building multiple days of service that will allow individuals and corporate groups to have an impact through interactive service projects in the month of January.
Live the Dream and Get Involved:
-
Lead a project as part of one of our large days of service, youth engagement programs or enhanced calendar specials occurring in January. We will need up to 120 leaders on January 19 for our Celebration of Service Program with Target that will engage 1,500 volunteers in a single day, and have dozens of other leadership opportunities throughout the month.
-
Look for select special programs that have an additional education and reflection component as part of the project or activity. Every project on our calendar in January will honor the work and vision of service established by Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Finding a special MLK project is easy; just search for MLK on our regular program calendar.
-
Serve with your school or youth group through Chicago Cares Youth in Service programming. Chicago Cares Youth in Service team is putting together projects aimed specifically for youth groups with students ages 8-18 that integrate:
- Education on the civil rights movement and the importance of being civically engaged.
- A comprehensive service project.
- A post project reflection activity where students connect what they learned with what they did through service.
-
Work with Chicago Cares to design a day of service that celebrates your company's commitment to the diverse city in which we live and work. We can build service projects for your employees on a day that works best for your team. Your donation will allow you to join the ranks of industry leaders like Target, Allstate, Grosvenor Capital Management, Deloitte, Aon and others in projects that:
- Meet the interests of your employees.
- Build skills and facilitate teamwork.
- Engage your team in active reflection and connection to the spirit of service that Dr King's message embodies.
