MLK Day of Service

Chicago Cares is celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! This special project provides an opportunity to learn about and honor the work of Dr. King.
Come out and spend your day conversing with other volunteers and individuals in the Garfield Park neighborhood. Volunteers will be serving at various pre-assigned locations. All volunteers will meet at Breakthrough's FamilyPlex.

Day of Event Details

  • Easy El access: Green Line - Kedzie stop
  • Metra access - via Kedzie stop
  • Limited street parking is available 
  • Volunteers are asked to wear closed toe shoes and clothes they don't mind getting dirty.
  • Do not bring any valuables with you as there will not be a secure location to store them.
  • Upon arrival at Breakthrough, Chicago Cares Leaders will give a brief orientation and instructions for the day.
  • Bus transportation will be provided to and from project sites.
  • Lunch will be provided by Bridge Cafe.
Partner: Located in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, Breakthrough Urban Ministries partners with those affected by poverty to build connections, develop skills and open doors of opportunity.
