Community Space Stewardship at Burnham Nature Sanctuary

Chicago Cares’ volunteer projects are opportunities to connect with our neighbors, challenge our assumptions, change how we think and feel about our city, and inspire action – all while making a tangible, positive impact through service. By volunteering at this project, volunteers will connect with organizations that promote and/or maintain public green spaces for individual and community well-being.

Description:During the project, volunteers will work to help maintain the ecological health of the sanctuary (planting and monitoring native species, removing invasive species, collecting seed); help maintain access to the park (trail clearing, trail maintenance.); and improve aesthetics (trash pick-up, fence maintenance.) By supporting the staff, you’ll play a role in sustaining the quality programs offered by the site. All tools, gloves, tasks, supplies and training are provided by the site. Volunteers should dress for the weather and dress in layers. There are no bathrooms on site.

Transit Information This location is accessible via Metra (47th St.) or the #6 (Jackson Park Express), #47 (47th), or #28 (Stony Island) bus.
