Community Space Stewardship at Burnham Nature Sanctuary
Description:During the project, volunteers will work to help maintain the ecological health of the sanctuary (planting and monitoring native species, removing invasive species, collecting seed); help maintain access to the park (trail clearing, trail maintenance.); and improve aesthetics (trash pick-up, fence maintenance.) By supporting the staff, you’ll play a role in sustaining the quality programs offered by the site. All tools, gloves, tasks, supplies and training are provided by the site. Volunteers should dress for the weather and dress in layers. There are no bathrooms on site.
Transit Information This location is accessible via Metra (47th St.) or the #6 (Jackson Park Express), #47 (47th), or #28 (Stony Island) bus.
Community Partner A part of the larger 300 acres of Burnham Park which stretches throughout the south region of the city, Burnham Nature Sanctuary is truly a hidden gem in the city. Serving as a bird and butterfly sanctuary, it’s home to a number of amazingly beautiful native species, it provides beautiful public space will be safe and clean for visitors and the surrounding community to enjoy. The Burnham Nature Sanctuary has been a Chicago Cares partner since 2004.
