What does it take to be a mentor?
*You must be age 22 and up
*A desire to work with youth with disabilities
*An application and background check
*Attendance at a meeting one Saturday a month at Access Living
*Contact with your mentee once a month at your convenience
*A willingness to share your interests, experience and wisdom
The minimum commitment for DJMC is four hours per month. This small investment of your time can have a profound impact on the life of a youth with a disability.
DJMC provides a unique opportunity for youth with disabilitites, ages 12-24, to receive guidance and support from a mentor who cares about disability justice. Disability justice is beyond disability rights-being sure that people have access to society and full inclusion beyond what is the law. in particular, disability justice is about furthering the power of people with color with disabilities.
