Referral: Mentor Matching Engine

Back in 2012 ISTI recognized a need in the Illinois community to connect innovative leaders and corporate resources with classrooms. We created the Mentor Matching Engine (MME), an online platform that connects students virtually with industry and university mentors to collaborate on student-led research projects. MME allows high school students to create projects online and select from our pool of recruited and quality mentors (all background checked), and then allows the students to work with these mentors virtually over the course of the year, with the teacher able to oversee and monitor all communication.
In the coming academic year, we have a real need for mentors in a variety of fields to share their expertise and skills. Mentors will communicate exclusively on MME to guide students through the course of their project.
The Mentor Matching Engine is a great way to volunteer and give back to younger students without a huge time commitment. It is also a helpful way to build your own experience in your field of study, build your CV, and interact with your community. Since it's virtual, all mentoring is online, with all communication through written discussion or video conferencing.

The Illinois Science & Technology Institute (ISTI) is a STEM-focused nonprofit that provides programs and partnerships to connect companies with classrooms. ISTI supports schools and companies who want to impact the next generation of innovators, to build a stronger, more inclusive talent pipeline in Illinois. We are a bridge between the classroom and real world that facilitates collaboration between students and industry mentors. Volunteers who mentor students develop substantial relationships that foster growth and development in STEM fields.
