Referral: Playstreets Block Parties with LUCHA

Volunteers with LUCHA will be working with Resident Services staff to plan and host 3-5 Playstreets block parties throughout the summer, 2020.  Playstreets is a series of interactive, resident-driven block parties which close off streets for fun, safe and engaging play for all ages. LUCHA has hosted two years of successful Playstreets, and we have been so fortunate to witness the connections made among residents, LUCHA staff and community vendors. This position includes responsibilities such as: coordinating with vendors, creatively designing flyers, community outreach with tenants and neighbors, flyering, reaching out to community businesses, working with local alderman to approve permits.

The last Playstreets, they distributed over 100 backpacks, 80 baby and adult hygiene kits, and over 150 kid and teen books. Playstreets decided to go all out and hire a DJ to help with party flow, had donated raffle prizes and get community members were on the dance floor for our zumba instructors. Every summer, Playstreets look for volunteers to help support these amazing events, which get people out in their community and most importantly, show families and children that the streets can be a safe place to spend time in their neighborhood. We can't wait for you to help us host parties this summer, 2020!
