Young Scientists at McCormick

Use fun, interactive methods to explore science concepts with fifth-graders. Under the guidance of a trained volunteer leader, you’ll assist children as they discover and learn through exciting hands-on experiments, activities, and games. The school is in a predominately Latino community, so most children speak English and Spanish. By supporting this program, you provide a positive environment that encourages inquiry-based learning and helps children develop social and personal skills by working cooperatively with peers and volunteers.

  • Science experience is not required – just a curiosity to learn and explore!

Partner: McCormick Elementary is a Chicago Public School serving Kindergarten through fifth graders. The school’s mission is to ensure that each student learns the skills and acquires the knowledge necessary to succeed in the future as a responsible and productive citizen. McCormick Elementary has been a Chicago Cares partner since 2010 for this project, one of multiple Chicago Cares programs at the school.
