Earth Day Special: Young Scientists at Young

Join Chicago Cares and the children at Young as we celebrate Earth Day 2017. Students will be prompted by volunteers to discuss the importance of keeping our Earth Healthy! Following the discussion students and volunteers will weed and plant around the school! Under the guidance of a skilled volunteer leader, you’ll work with third- and fourth-graders to complete hands-on activities and experiments that demonstrate scientific concepts. By doing so you’ll create a fun learning environment that supplements classroom activities. Each day will end with games, celebrating the children's work and dedication to the program. The school uses this program as a reward for good behavior, attendance, and attitude during the school week, so participants are always enthusiastic!

Partner: A part of the neighborhood since 1924, Ella Flagg Young Elementary School is a Chicago Public School serving students in pre-K through eighth grade. The school’s vision is to provide students with every opportunity to achieve their highest potential in every curricular area. Young School has been a Chicago Cares partner since 2010 for this project, one of multiple Chicago Cares programs at the school.
