Cook up some fun with a lively group of seniors! Prepare and serve a healthy breakfast to low-income residents and afterward join them in a spirited interactive game. Your participation also expands the facility’s capacity for improving resident’s overall quality of life. Chicago Cares’ volunteer projects are opportunities to connect with our neighbors, challenge our assumptions, change how we think and feel about our city, and inspire action – all while making a tangible, positive impact through service.

Description
During this project volunteers will engage with residents as well as prepare breakfast and play bingo with the residents. Through conversation-guided activities, volunteers will work with seniors to discuss the ways in which people can be victims of scams or fraud and identify strategies to protect themselves from these events.

Transit Information
This location is accessible via the CTA Brown/Purple Line Diversey stop.

Program Goal
Volunteers will engage with seniors and help facilitate conversations surrounding scams targeted toward vulnerable populations.

Impact of Program
Vulnerable populations such as older adults are at risk for being targeted for scams because of limited knowledge of phishing and fraud. Volunteers will assist seniors in deepening their knowledge of these risks, allowing volunteers to become informed advocates of protections against fraud targeting vulnerable populations.
