Referral: South-East Asia Center ESL Tutors

Description Volunteers serve as ESL tutors working one-on-one or with small groups of 2-4 immigrant or refugee adult learners to increase their knowledge of the English language. Generally, volunteers meet with their student once a week for an hour to two hours. Student levels range from low-literacy to conversational.
Impact Working with immigrants and refugees is a moving experience. Volunteers can expect to make a concrete impact in the life of the student they work with. Though at times language acquisition can seem slow, volunteer tutors will help students learn applicable English language skills that can be put to use in student’s daily lives. Beyond the impact of teaching English, volunteers often develop strong, fulfilling relationships with their students that reach across cultural boundaries.
Time Monday-Saturdays, all day

Partner Information The mission of the South-East Asia Center is to build bridges of understanding and cooperation amongst all Asian people as well as between peoples of Eastern and Western upbringing. They work with native-born Americans and immigrants, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
