Referral: Minds Matter Chicago - Seeking Mentors
DescriptionMinds Matter is an academic mentoring program that empowers high-performing high school students from low-income families to achieve college admissions and success. Students in the program participate in Saturday sessions which include mentoring, test prep, critical thinking and writing skill-building, and complete precollege academic programs over the summer.
Minds Matter matches each student with two mentors that work with them for the duration of the program, from their sophomore through senior years of high school. This 2-on-1 structure is one of the things that sets Minds Matter apart and ensures their mentees’ success.
We are currently seeking mentors, test prep instructors, Associate Board members (our fundraising team), and committee members.
This organization’s success is founded upon the quality of their 200+ strong community of volunteers. These volunteers help support Minds Matter's incredible students into college and beyond. High schools with predominantly low-income students have 1,000 students per counselor versus a national average of 471 students per counselor. 50% of our nation’s high-achieving, low-income students do not apply to a single selective college, and personalized mentoring gives students the extra support they need to achieve their goals.
