Service Plus: Englewood

Service Plus is a program model Chicago Cares is piloting that pairs education about the fundamentals of an issue or geographic area with impactful related service for a group of committed volunteers over multiple sessions.

For this Service Plus program, we'll provide a deeper dive into the Englewood neighborhood and collective-impact efforts the community is undertaking. This program will feature a total of four sessions in which volunteers will learn the history of Englewood and its comprehensive plan for the future, be introduced to organizations who are working together to achieve the community goals, and receive a customized recommendation on how they can turn their knowledge into action:

Session I (Education and Service): Englewood Overview
    Saturday, December 1, 9am to 1pm

Session II (Education): Quality of Life Planning
    Thursday, December 13, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Session III (Education): Collective Impact Work
    Thursday, January 3, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Session VI (Education and Service): Knowledge Into Action
    Saturday, January 19, 9am to 1pm

As this Service Plus program is a new model Chicago Cares is testing, we are seeking flexible but committed volunteers:

  • Volunteers are expected to complete the entirety of all sessions, but doing so for the first session and at least two other sessions is mandatory to be considered for the program.
  • Participation, feedback, and evaluation per session are required.
  • Session locations are being finalized, but all will be in Englewood.
  • Transportation is not provided, but carpooling or other arrangements may be possible.
  • Refreshments and session materials will be provided.
